I will be putting together a signature book of sorts which I will take to the Monday show that Uninspired Empire was slated to play. This will be at Zaphod Beeblebrox. Everyone should come by, if possible, and write down your wishes for John, just sign your name if you want.
I'll also have a collection plate for flowers to be sent to him. If you can donate a few cents, it will be appreciated.
Let's show a little solidarity for our comrades, folks.

If you want to know more or can't make it but want to donate a dollar, email me at steigs@puredissonance.com and we can figure it out over the weekend.

I would also appreciate, in this case, if people could hold their replies to:

- if they can come on Monday and want to help set something up
- if they can't come and want to help out some other way if possible

..by "set something up", i'm thinking maybe a small drunk-driving display or information, I'm not really sure at this point. Ideas are welcome, just email them to me.

id love to help out enyway i can....i lost my godfather and another friend of the family to drinking and driving, so this matter of drinking and driving i want to stop...i cannot make it to the show monday but id love to help enyways i can...it would also be great to make a donation to MADD, SADD or eny for of "___ against drunk driving"

Awful news and I wish John, his girlfriend and their respective families all of the best. I mentioned this in the other thread, but Kyle and I (from Q-Publik) work at Zaphods and would be more than willing to collect donations for the next few weeks. If somebody would like to create a little page describing the situation then I'll gladly put out a donation cup on a nightly basis. I don't know what John and his girlfriend's living situation is like but I'm sure some spare cash while they're recovering couldn't hurt. I hope I see you all Monday.

That's wonderful! I could set that up for you, and appreciate the thought.

Fat Adam, do you know anyone with MADD or any of those, and if so, could you (or anyone else) get one of those MADD displays (just to set up on a table for info) maybe?

I appreciate all the thoughts, ideas I've gotten... it's great.

First off, my sincere sympathies to John, his friends and family. I hope he recovers soon.

Secondly, I think that it is great that people are setting up the card/flowers thing for him. I will definitely drop by Zaphods monday to sign and donate.

Thirdly, though, I would STRONGLY recommend that opeople NOT donate to MADD or recommend that others do so either.

While MADD does do work against drunk driving, the group has also been involved in other causes that you may not be as supportive of, such as raising the drinking age, lowering the legal BAC limit, etc.

I do not know anything about SADD so I will refrain from commenting on them, but they may well have the same kind of 'mission creep' happening as well.

It's a simple fact that pressure groups will pick the most 'friendly' and 'obvious' name they can think of "Mothers Against Drunk Driving! Hey, we can all support that!" But if you look at the campaigns they are actually involved in, you may learn that you do not in fact agree with their position on many issues and do not want to support their obbying efforts.
